Hey the blogging link phenomena and google . Its a bit scary.

I started this blog to put on the modern equivalent of paper some of the practical challenges about running a church website from an an intersted non-professional. Now Google search for “example of good church website design ” gives a link to David’s blog at churchblogger as its first on page 1 where cambray’s site is under the wordpress sites on the page. (I have only found 3 in the uk from a google search for wordress church uk or some such search) , it was only when sitemeter.com started to see links from churchblogger, (see my blogroll for link ) I thought what is going on?  Flattering, but I have seen many, many better sites than cambray.org site.

These are the current improvements required for cambray

  1. Pictures  of the church in action
  2. Speed of loading sorted
  3. Training of content providers
  4. Permalink links improved
  5. Calendar incorporated
  6. Mp3 available more quickly from the sound guys.. this is not a criticism guys I know the challenges you have ! ( problem with plugins I have tried )
  7. Fully podcast compatible
  8. Better wording of pages for the enquirer
  9. Sermon texts improved
  10. Life stories ( testimonies)
  11. What it mean s to be a christian  information

Church websites are an essential part of local churches’ public profiles to their communities  header from http://ied.gospelcom.net/church.php

  1. Flattered, you should not be. Many of the examples I have seen of so called good church sites are disappointing from either an updating perspective or with regards to accessibility.
Sure, there are a lot of good sites, but they tend to be very heavy on flash or graphics or have many permanent church office staff to update them.
If you have any good suggestions I would be pleased to include them. The churchblogger site has only recently been started and I do not really have the time to trawl the web for better examples, but rather the grow the list as and when I come accross good examples.

  2. Good church websites are few and far between. A lot churches don’t have the budget to pay a professional to design a site so they let members who volunteer design it for them. Then maybe it gets updated once or twice a year. WordPress is going to change all this. Now the church staff can make changes to the site without any programming knowledge. I am a hugh fan of WordPress and have used it for many different organizations. I am just beginning development for my church at http://www.desotohillsbaptist.com. You can see I am in the early stages and there is much to come so keep checking back. If you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know. Thanks for the blog! Very Interesting.
