I wanted to separate the “brochure side” i.e. the fixed pages like: where we are and when we meet etc., from the changing pages or posts which are things like who is preaching or teaching this Sunday or what is the prayer focus this week.
I needed to look for a site template or theme in wordpress jargon that had pages clearly separated from the posts. I liked the idea of recents posts being one side and categories being on the other. I had been searching for a xhtml style template for the ideas of incorporating blogger into the publishing web page ideas I had. Incidently www.minehead-baptist.com have done this successfully with their site where the blogger powered page for the sermons as podcasts looks the same as the rest of the site, as far as I can see.
The Andeas Viklund templates suited these considerations well and I tried out one after I searched for “wordpress and andreas” or some such on wordpress or google I forget which.
I like a template that has a fluid centre so that it tends to work well with different screen sizes and resolutions etc, the Andreas template fitted the bill. Another benefit is that child pages , i.e. pages such as what we believe is a child page of cambray.org/about/ will in this template not appear on the links at the top or the default arragement for the template.
Christian enquirers or non christians need a simpler page about what we believe in the brochure pages at the top (one of my action points by the way for the site.)
Unfortunately however it does mean that I cannot change the template on a whim, without some thought.

Hi!
I’m James, the web guy for Minehead Baptist Church. Thanks for the link. Our site is now fully on wordpress which runs everything. The Blogger method worked well when we used it, but now it’s much easier to maintain in one place!
I custom built the wordpress theme and I think it does the job really nicely!
